The 30 Best Movie Songs of the Last 40 Years

29 Jun

25. We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome), by Tina Turner, from Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome (1985)

Not just starring in the movie, Tina Turner provided the lead song to Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome. We Don’t Need Another Hero perfectly reflects the cynicism of the population of the post-apocalyptic world of the film, and Turner’s voice perfectly matches the song.  A belting voice for a belting anthem. We don’t need another hero – we’ve got Tina.

Stats: Number 1 in Australia, number 2 in the US, number 3 in the UK; Golden Globe nomination.

Penalty Points: Beyond the Thunderdome was probably the worst Mad Max film.

Bonus Points: Turner dressed up as Aunty Entity; awesome ’80s sax solo; when Tina commands all the children to sing…all the children sing.  That’s authority!
