28. Into the West, by Annie Lennox, from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

The epic trilogy that is The Lord of the Rings ended with one of the most successful films in history. Earning 11 Academy Awards and over a billion dollars worldwide, everything about The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was a success. That includes the soundtrack and the haunting Annie Lennox single, Into the West. Not letting the team down, the song won the Academy Award, as well as the Golden Globe and Grammy. I doubt even Frodo could pull that off.

Stats: Academy Award win; Golden Globe win; Grammy win.

Penalty Points: Didn’t have chart success – when was the last time you heard it on the radio?

Bonus Points: Part of one of the most successful films of the century; it reached number one on the Middle-Earth charts and is on regular rotation on Gandalf’s iPod.
